Slade Easter is charged for child abuse October 10, 2021 after a wellness check on an unknown child was reported. Officers responded to the 200 block of South Logan Avenue when they found Slade Easter with a young boy inside of a vehicle where methamphetamines' and hypodermic syringes were found. The small child appeared to be lethargic and had a substantial amount of bruises and cuts to his body. A closer medical review of the child showed he also had missing teeth.
Slade was the only person with the child at the time the child was located. The unknown child was removed and Slade was arrested and charged.
Slade was charged as follows:
Aggravated Battery to a child causing permanent disability, Class X Felony
Aggravated Battery of a child with bodily harm, Class 3 Felony
Possession of meth above 5 grams, Class 3 Felony
Possession of hypodermic syringes and needles, Class A Misdemeanor
Cause Child to be Endangered, Class A Misdemeanor
Slade is waiting trial on a $400,000 bond at the Coles County Jail and has prior criminal charges pending.
It is unknown who the child, his relationship to the child, is or why he had possession of the child at the time.
After his arrest, the judge ordered him to substance abuse treatment. He was ordered to have no contact with the mother of the victim child, and no contact with any child under the age of 18.
Mattoon Police Statement, October 18, 2021:
Mattoon Police arrested Slade Easter, age 20 of Mattoon, for the offenses of Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, Endangering the Life/Health of a Child, and Aggravated Battery of a Child. The arrest occurred on October 10th at 5:10pm in the 200 block of S. Logan Ave. The offenses allege Mattoon Officers were called to a local business in reference to a well-being check on a child. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with Easter and a child inside a vehicle. During the initial encounter Officers located Methamphetamine and Hypodermic Syringes within the vehicle. The small child, in Easter's care, was observed to be lethargic and have a substantial amount of bruises/cuts on his body. The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment. During the course of the investigation Easter was identified as the sole caretaker of the child in the time leading up to the complaint. A subsequent examination of the child revealed further injuries, including the loss of teeth.
Easter was transported to the Coles County Safety and Detention Center. His bond was set at $400,000 (10 applies). Records indicate Easter has pending criminal charges in Coles County; including Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Firearm by Felon, and Violation of Bail Bond.
This investigation is still ongoing.
In January 2021, he was arrested for possession of methamphetamines, heroin and LSD, with a handgun. Slade was just 19 years of age at the time.
His charges were as follows:
Possession of Meth over 5 grams, Class 3 Felony
Possession Amount of Controlled Substance, Class 4 Felony
Possession Amount of Controlled Substance, Class 4 Felony
Slade was also ordered to undergo substance abuse treatment by the judge back in January. Outpatient. Slade's bond was initially sent to $10,000 but the judge allowed the request to reduce bond to $5000. Someone paid $500 and Slade was out.
The gun charge was a separate and also continues. He was charged with:
Felony Possession or use of a weapon / firearm (Class 3 Felony)
Violation of Bail Bond Possession of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony)
This case also continues.
Mattoon Police Department, January 25, 2021
Mattoon Police arrested Slade N. Easter, 19 years of age of Mattoon, for the offenses of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Heroin and LSD, and Armed Violence. The arrest occurred on 1/23/21 at 4:43am in the 400 block of N. 14th Street in Mattoon. The charges allege on 1/23/21 while in the 400 block of 14th Street, police made contact with Mr. Easter during a drug investigation. While speaking with Mr. Easter, it was discovered he was in possession of methamphetamine, heroin, LSD, and a handgun. He was charged with armed violence due to being in possession of the handgun while committing the felonies of possessing the illegal drugs. Mr. Easter was taken to the Coles County Jail.
We pray that the child has great care and protection from this defendant and others, that he is cared for and has all the things he needs to overcome the abuse he endured. Thankfully this child was found alive.
