Harmony Montgomery, 7, December 31, 2021, Manchester, Vermont

Updated: Dec 24, 2022

Harmony Montgomery was just five years old when she disappeared in 2019. The Manchester Police Department however was unaware of her disappearance until they issued a missing child alert December 31, 2021.

Adam Montgomery, her father and his girlfriend, Kelsey Small were being questioned in her disappearance. But on March 13, 2022, Kelsey was found deceased in a hotel, which police reported that her death was not considered suspicious. The obituary reports that she 'died suddenly', with no further explanation. Kelsey was never charged in Harmony's disappearance.

On or about October 24th, the Manchester, New Hampshire Police Department charged Adam with felony second-degree murder in connection with 2019 conduct against his daughter, falsifying physical evidence, concealment of a homicide and abuse of a corpse and tampering with a witness. He was also charged with one misdemeanor charge of interference with custody, and two misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child pertaining to Harmony. Shortly after, Adam ceased all contact with his family from any contact with Harmony. Harmony was never seen again. It was about this time that Adam's girlfriend Kayla was charged with one count of theft by deception and two counts of welfare fraud. She had been accused of making intentional false claims that Harmony was living at their residence along with their other children, requesting state assistance benefits. They were evicted out of their residence November 27, 2019 in Manchester. Between 12/6/2019 to 12/10/2019 multiple persons reported seeing the couple with two children, not Harmony.

Harmony was not registered at the public school system near her residence.

It is believed that her father killed Harmony sometime between December 7, 2019 and March 4, 2020, by repeatedly striking her in the head with a closed fist.

Police believe that Harmony disappeared sometime between November 28, 2019 to December 10, 2019. She was last seen at her Manchester home when police responded to the residence back in October 2019. Harmony's biological mother, Crystal Renee Sorey told police that Adam had custody.

Adam was finally arrested December 31, 2021 when he was found in a car with Kelsey Small sleeping in Manchester. Kelsey said she was aware that Adam had four children with two women, she had been with him for more than a year, but he never mentioned Harmony and said she had no information on Harmony's whereabouts. Kelsey was found dead days later. At the time, she was living at a sober house after being charged with her second DUI.

Harmony is still missing. She is described as 4', 50 lbs., legally blind in her right eye and wears glasses.

There is a reward now increased to $150,000 for information on Harmony's disappearance. If you have information on Harmony's disappearance or whereabouts, please contact the Manchester Police Department at (603) 668-8711.

The search for Harmony continues.

Sometime in June 2022, during a search at one of the residences, a refrigerator was seen wheeled in to the residence by persons in hazmat suits, and wheeled back out. It is believed whatever was put into the fridge may have been 'biological evidence'. It is unknown what brought law enforcement to this particular residence.

In July, Harmony's mother stated that she has not received any information that was found in the search at the apartment where they lived regarding the search, the refrigerator that was removed, the tiles , carpet and the pole also removed. The only thing she said she was told was 'to expect the worst'.

On August 11, 2022, the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office released this statement:

Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella, Manchester Police Chief Allen D. Aldenberg, and United States Marshal Enoch F. Willard announce the following update regarding the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Harmony Montgomery in 2019:

  • In January, officials announced that Harmony Montgomery likely disappeared sometime during the timeframe of November 28–December 10, 2019. Since that announcement, members of the Manchester Police Department, the United States Marshals Service, and other law enforcement agencies have diligently continued the investigation, devoting thousands of hours to pursuing numerous leads and gathering evidence.

  • These efforts have led investigators to conclude that Harmony Montgomery was murdered in Manchester in early December, 2019. While Harmony's remains have not yet been located, multiple sources of investigative information, including biological evidence, lead to this conclusion. As a result, this is now a homicide investigation. Investigators continue to look into the circumstances of Harmony's murder and search for her remains.

  • Due to the ongoing investigation, no further comment will be made as to the specifics or nature of the evidence.
